    Leo stopped in his tracks and quickly turned his head to see who, or what, had spoken to him. Although the sun's glare through the trees made it difficult to see, he could just make out the faint outlines of a figure. When squinting failed to further reveal the figure, Leo raised his left wing as shade for his eyes, and suddenly was able to see who was addressing him... none other than his uncle Juan.

    He hadn't seen Juan in years. In fact, no one in Leo's family had. The youngest of Leo's father's forty-six siblings, Juan had always been the troublemaker of the family, from early childhood pranks to teenage misdemeanors to adult felonies. Most recently, Juan had spent six months imprisoned in the Reichardt Duck Farm in Petaluma, California on for intentionally leading a small migrating flock of Mandarin ducks (the historical rivals of his native Bufflehead family) to China rather than Florida, and abandoning them to the dark fate that awaits all ducks within 300 miles of the town formerly known as Peking.

    "Uncle Juan, what are you doing here?" Leo asked.

    "We don't have time for questions, Leo! You need to stop this foolishness now and come with me!"

    Leo didn't know what to do. He knew that getting caught by the king's forces would seal his fate, and that he would never obtain the valuable
